Santa María claimed the Torneo Toñanejo, the event which leads up to the renowned (XXXIX) Torneo Internacional BMW de Polo, that will also take place at the Santa María Polo Club. Twenty five teams have entered the event, and it will go ahead on the Sotogrande pitches.
Santa María managed to safeguard its undefeated status by overcoming Anaconda 10-8½ in the Torneo Toñanejo, after having won its Friday and Saturday outings. Anaconda went on to finish the tournament in third place, and the runner-up placing went to Juan Amar, that during the morning of today overcame Dr.A 6-5. Santa María's success against Juan Amar meant this latter team had no chance of claiming the title, especially after Anaconda lost its match against Santa María.
High-handicap polo will return to the Santa María Polo Club on July 27th, with the cream of the world’s players arriving at Sotogrande. Until August 29th, the XXXIX Torneo Internacional BMW de Polo will be taking place. Worthy of mention is the fact that access to the event is free, and there will be an access fee only on the day of the event's final. The proceeds will be destined to charity.
