A new edition of the Torneo Internacional BMW de Polo will be taking place in a few weeks' time. The event was presented in the main offices of BMW in the city of Madrid, Spain, on Tuesday 13th. Players and teams will begin to vying for the title on July 27th, at Sotogrande.
Among those present at the announcement were Gastón Streiger, the marketing director of BMW Spain, Luis Estrada, vice-president of the Santa María Polo Club, Alexandra Colombo, press officer of Hublot, Luis Benjumea, manager of the Federación Española de Polo, and Ignacio Domecq, captain of the Spain's national team.
Gastón Streiger remarked on the fact of how BMW is fully supporting this leading polo event, apart from other sports such as golf and yachting.
Luis Estrada outlined that this event due to go ahead at Sotogrande will include high-handicap outfits, some of which are among the best in the world, and spoke of the importance of this leading event in a world context.
Some of the world's leading players are due to take part in the XXXIX Torneo Internacional BMW de Polo at Sotogrande. During more than a month, polo players such as Facundo Pieres, David Stirling (Jr.), Pablo MacDonough and Juan Martín Nero, among others, will give proof of their spectacular polo talents on the pitches of the Santa María Polo Club. Among the to teams are Ayala, Ahmibah, Lechuza Caracas and Ellerston, from various parts of the world.
Included in the Spanish polo season will also be, as usual, the Medium- and Low-Handicap events. The Medium-Handicap event will include, among others, teams such as La Corchuela, Isola 1892, Ayala-Esperanza, Scapa-John Smith, Anaconda, Woodchester, Santa Quiteria, Tacones and Santa María, among whose line-ups are players such as Tomás Fernández Llorente, Santiago Cernadas, Mario Gómez and Alejo Taranco. In the Low-Handicap event, among other teams to be taking part will be La Ortiga, L-14, el Cañal, Capial and La Querencia, with players like Carlos Lucena, Daniel Gariador, Santiago Moyano and Hernán Pieres in the line-ups.
Once again, the Torneo Internacional de Polo will be the summer's leading event, and also one of the important calendar dates of the World Polo Tour, with 24 teams, more than 120 matches, 100 players and more than 1,000 horses.
The prestige and recognition of the Santa María Polo Club and its Torneo Internacional de Polo continue to grow. Apart from its world-class facilities, with nine polo pitches, a wonderful zone with hospitality centres and commercial areas, there will be a new area this year called After Polo, a huge, polivalent area where people can enjoy the exclusivity and charm of the nights of Sotogrande in a different setting, with fashion shows, concerts, chillouts...
